Hemstitching

One of the most frequently used finishing techniques is hemstitching.  I always like the way that hemstitching looks, so I generally do not begrudge the time that it takes to do it, although it does feel like you just get a good rhythm going on your weaving when you have to go back and take care of the hem.

I recently bought a stool to use at my counterbalance loom.  I found it at the local thrift shop and it came with assorted sewing tools, most of which simply needed to be tossed.  But there was an interesting set of needles.  The packing needle has a little curved end, which is actually scooped.  The curve is about a quarter inch, perfect for hemstitching.  The proper tool, which I did not even know I was missing, makes the task of hemstitching faster and more enjoyable.
